In the Last Minute
Dreams in her mind, excitement in her body and a twinkle in her eyes- that was Parleen Kaur Bath’s demeanour on 17th August 2022, her first day at CHRIST (Deemed to be University). “This was different from changing schools. This was much bigger. A huge sea of new faces, all with diverse pasts, made it equally nerve-wracking and exciting.”, she recalls as she goes through her memories of 1BComH B. But the overwhelming number of people in the university pushed her into a cocoon- she would rather not talk to anyone apart from a few of her classmates. “I felt I didn’t know how to interact. There were too many people and I was unsure of how to go about it.” Little did she know, it was all about to change.
In her second semester, one fine day she was attending an orientation held by Last Minute Productions. She was awestruck by the sheer energy they had while performing, how they had fun together and she adored the senior-junior bonds everyone shared. She was all amped up just sitting in the audience. “ I knew then, I was made for LMP. Their vibe matched mine. I decided to audition.” She went head over heels when she got selected. Last Minute Productions is a production house run by students of the Department of Commerce at CHRIST. Started by a team of 10 students in the year 2007-08, LMP is now in its 16th year of glory. They delve into aspects of theatre- street play, proscenium and mime. One of the ace teams at CHRIST, they have brought many laurels to the university and have represented CHRIST in different cities like IIM Indore, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras and many more.
She recalls her first few practices. “I was a little intimidated looking at the amount of talent my teammates had. Our seniors were considerate of our feelings and greatly helped us.” LMP gave her the confidence to try out new things. All members of LMP become a family away from home. Exposure, networking, and guidance in different aspects of University life is something that LMP fosters. She now has an extensive network of seniors, super seniors and juniors. “ My seniors helped me a lot in every aspect. CIAs, self-development, internships, resume building and a lot more. “I have grown a lot in the past year. I gained confidence, became outspoken, picked up many creative skills and most important of all, I became happy.” LMP is a great way to blow steam after hectic assignments and CIAs. It promotes holistic development and helps achieve graduate attributes.
Never had she done any form of theatre before, but hard work, passion and dedication led her team to win 1st place in the Street Play competition in Darpan 2023. Not only did she win, she was also selected to be a part of the University Cultural Team. “After our loss in Blossoms last year, I promised myself to go to Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay.” From dreaming about Mood Indigo to going to perform for their prelims, this girl from 3BComH B has come a long way. A true Christite in spirit, she has won and lost. She has grown as a person. LMP has always and will always be a microcosm that CHRIST and the Department of Commerce will be proud of.
